    I don't know. Perhaps when your gram moved to the usa or her ancestors did, they changed the spelling a bit. i have found it spelled, Naykki and Näykki. So, it seems like Finnnish Americans have dropped the umlauts from the a. In Finland, they use the latter spelling. You can see for yourself at this population register.

    You can search by last name and first name. It is funny because, I can see that I am the only person with my first name living in Finland.
