Finnish Art

I've travelled from Lapland down to Helsinki before, on a trip around Norden. Kiasma is clearly the best art museum I've been to. I even found a copy of Framework- the finnish art review in my local bookshop, which prompts my post. It seemed modern art is the norm, and is everwhere, which I think is realy cool.

I am kind of stuck in the national romanticism and realism period of Finnish art. Regretfully, I have lived here almost two years and still haven't wandered into Kiasma. This summer I will definately go. There really isn't any excuse. However, I have been to the ateneum numerous times. www.ateneum.fi/acms/core/default.asp
Most awesome was the Albert Edelfelt exhibit they recently had.

Kiasma is better than ever right now with all manor of giant "folk-art" sculptures placed outside the building and stretching clear around Toolo bay. I walked through this spectacle last evening and it really was like something out of Alice in Wonderland.
